Privacy Policy
In short
- Web Clipper has no server. We do not receive, store or see your text, your documents or your Google account details.
- The text you choose to save goes from your browser directly to Google, into a document in your own Google Drive.
- The extension can access only the documents it created. It cannot see your other files.
- No analytics, no advertising, no sale or sharing of data.
1. Who we are
Web Clipper is a browser extension for Chrome that saves text you select on a web page to a Google Docs document. Contact for any privacy question: webclipper@knoweat.ai.
2. What data the extension handles
All of the data below is handled inside your browser. None of it is sent to us.
- The text you save. When you select text and choose “Save to Google Drive”, the extension reads that selection, the title of the page and its address. It reads them only at that moment and only on that page.
- Google access token. After you sign in, Google gives the extension a temporary access token (valid for about one hour). It is kept in the extension's local storage in your browser and is used only to call Google on your behalf.
- Your list of documents. For each document you created with the extension, it remembers the document's ID and title and which document is the default. This list is kept in Chrome's synced storage, so if Chrome sync is on, Chrome copies it between your own browsers through your Google account.
- The last error message. If a save fails, the text of the error shown to you is kept in local storage until the next successful action.
The extension does not collect your name, email address, browsing history, the content of pages you do not clip, or any identifiers for tracking.
3. How Google user data is used
Web Clipper asks for one Google permission: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file. It gives access only to files that the extension itself created.
With this access the extension does exactly two things, both only when you ask:
- creates a Google Docs document with the name you entered (or “Web Clips” if you have none);
- adds the selected text, the page title with a link, and the date to the end of a document it created. To find the end of the document, it asks Google for the document's length; it does not read the document's text.
The extension does not use Google user data for any other purpose. It does not use it for advertising, does not transfer it to third parties, and no person other than you can read it.
Web Clipper's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Its use of information received from Google APIs also adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Where the data goes
The extension connects only to Google services: Google's sign-in service and the Google Docs API. The text you save is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to Google and stored in your Google Drive under Google's Privacy Policy. There are no other recipients. We run no servers that receive data from the extension.
Right after installation the extension opens a welcome page on our website once. The page address tells the page only whether the extension icon is pinned to the toolbar. Like any website, ours keeps standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, time of visit) for security and troubleshooting; they are not linked to your Google account and are deleted automatically after 14 days. The extension sends nothing else to our website.
5. Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent, share or transfer your data to anyone, because we never receive it.
6. Storage, retention and deletion
- Access token. Expires after about an hour. “Sign out” in the extension window deletes it from your browser and asks Google to revoke it.
- List of documents and last error. Stay in your browser until you remove a document from the list or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes all data the extension stored.
- Your documents. They are regular files in your Google Drive and belong to you. Signing out, removing a document from the list or uninstalling the extension does not delete them. You can delete them yourself in Google Drive at any time.
- Access to your Google account. You can withdraw it at any time on the third-party connections page of your Google account.
Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on request. If you have any question about this, write to us.
7. Security
All requests to Google are made over HTTPS. The access token never leaves your browser except in requests to Google. The extension contains no remotely loaded code.
8. Children
Web Clipper is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data from anyone.
9. Changes to this policy
If the extension starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before the change is released, and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's description in the Chrome Web Store.
